I think what impressed me the most about Europe when I spent part of a summer there in the late 60's (my late teens) was how liberal the drinking laws were. Also how cold it was in England. Europe doesn't change much, maybe Carl noticed the same things.


Had to laugh at the Amex reference. My daughter is studying in Italy right now (she just turned 20) and my son (18) just came back from a few weeks in London, Paris, Spain and Morocco. I got them cell phones and we call each other whenever we need to. Plus with internet/net cafes, I always know where they are. (Now, getting the 18 yr old to answer his phone when he's on the Paris-Madrid night train and enjoying his first rum and cokes, quite another story!)
